Being an audience based festival, Sehsüchte promotes the exchange of young filmmakers with experienced ones, as well as the exchange with the film loving audience, in addition to the film screenings. This is the heart of the festival. Not only the cinemas, but the entire Sehsüchte Campus will come alive. During the day there will be workshops, panel discussions, and networking opportunities which encourages everyone to discuss, think and experiment with and about film. Sponsors, media companies, artists and filmmakers have the chance to present themselves and communicate with young filmmakers and festival visitors. After a visually rich and eventful festival day the Sehsüchte Lounge invites you to a Chill-Out-Drink every evening, whether shaken or stirred. In addition there will be concerts to spread a cozy atmosphere throughout the university. The grand finale of the festival week is the traditional Sehsüchte Party. Here you can exchange festival impressions and celebrate new acquaintances and future projects. And of course you can already speculate which films will win the flame formed trophies at the award ceremony on the following and last festival day!
All our visitors can look forward to our special events and the accompanying program.
Opening Ceremony, Sehsüchte Party and Award Ceremony

Schreibsüchte: Dramaturgy Live
In Dramaturgy Live we will speak with successful and well-known german screenplay writers, who will give us insight into their working methods. In the previous years we had prominent guests such as Annette Hess (“Weissensee”) and Ralf Husmann (“Stromberg”), who gave us an exciting view into the screenplay practice.
Meeting other filmmakers during a relaxed brunch – there is no better way to start the day and to get connected!
Retrospective was a phenomenon during Sehsüchte that, like a rare animal, only appeared sporadically. This changed last year. The first years of the new master studies class “Filmkulturerbe” at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF curated in 2017 two short film programs presenting student film works from different decades in various facets.
The festival theme METAMORPHOSIS will once again be reflected in the content: The audience will experience the changes in human biographies, radical changes in society and technology in documentaries, experimental films or feature films taking a look at the film Archives.
Besides the films we offer exciting workshops, in which the participants will acquire new skills, tricks and knowledge from experts.
Networking counts! Time to meet other filmmakers, to have fun and to talk about projects and goals.
In interesting panels, people of the film industry talk about their work and what´s on their mind.
